Answering service pricing for tour and activity companies in 2026

Tally the bell answers a phone on a lake dock beside a calendar page, with a yellow kayak on the water and pine trees behind.

Real 2026 prices for live and AI phone answering, how each one bills, and what a tour company should look for. By Tallbell, maker of Tally.

Your phone rings most when you're out on the water or up the trail. A missed call is often a missed booking. This guide shows what answering services really cost in 2026, how each one bills you, and what a tour or activity company should look for.

We're Tallbell, and we make Tally, an AI phone receptionist. So a vendor wrote this guide. Tally is an AI, and it says so at the start of every call. Our prices sit in the lists below, next to everyone else's. You can also see them on our pricing page.

What a tour company should look for

Four things matter most when you pick a service for a tour or activity business:

  1. How you pay. A flat monthly price is easy to plan for. Per-minute billing goes up when callers ask long questions about times, gear and meeting spots.
  2. Calls after hours. Guests often call at night to plan the next day. Check what a night call costs you.
  3. Booking into your tour software. A message is good. A booking already in your system is better.
  4. A free trial. Try it on your real calls before you pay.

Answering service pricing: the three ways you get billed

Per minute. You buy a set number of minutes each month. Every minute on the phone uses some up. A long call costs more than a short one.

Per call. Each call has a price, and you usually buy calls in a bundle each month. A short call and a long call cost the same. Some services count callers instead of calls.

Flat monthly plan. One price for the month covers a set number of calls. You know the price before the month starts. This is how Tally works. Calls under 20 seconds don't count. Go over your plan and Tally keeps answering. Each extra call is 50 cents. A call over 8 minutes counts as 2 calls.

Whichever way you're billed, ask: what happens if you go over? Get the answer in writing.

Three cards show a stopwatch, a phone handset and a monthly calendar page, with Tally the bell waving below.

Bar chart of monthly prices for the entry plan and the next plan up: Tally $149 (Answer) and $299 (Book), My AI Front Desk $99, Abby $164 and $329, Smith.ai AI receptionist $150 and $500, Yonder $445.

Booking into Checkfront and Bookeo

Most tour companies run their bookings in tour software, not a plain calendar. Most of the answering services in this guide don't name Checkfront or Bookeo on their own websites. Before you sign up anywhere, ask to see a real booking land in your system.

Tally can book a caller straight into Checkfront. You choose whether Tally books the job right away or holds the spot for you to confirm.

Tally can also book straight into Bookeo.

Either way, Tally emails you after every call, so you see what happened.

How the services compare on what tour companies need

The table below puts Tally next to four other AI answering services: My AI Front Desk, Abby, Yonder and Smith.ai's AI receptionist. It compares price, what's included, what happens when you go over, price per minute, booking into Checkfront or Bookeo, after-hours answering, call summaries, texting and setup help. Prices come from each company's own pricing page, checked November 2, 2026. The list after the table sums up how each service bills and whether it has a free trial.

Every service in this guide says it answers around the clock or at night. Smith.ai's page says a call at 2 am costs the same as one at 2 pm. With per-minute plans, though, every long night call uses up minutes. With Tally, a call is a call, day or night.

Work out your own cost in 3 steps

  1. Count your calls a month. Use your busiest month, like the peak of your season.
  2. Guess how long a call lasts. Pick a rough average in minutes. Multiply your calls by that number. That's your minutes a month.
  3. Compare. For per-minute plans, find the smallest plan with enough minutes. For per-call and flat plans, find the smallest plan with enough calls.

A made-up example

This is a made-up kayak tour company, not a real business. In peak season it gets about 150 calls a month. Each call lasts about 3 minutes.

150 calls × 3 minutes = about 450 minutes a month.

  • Ruby: Billed by: Minutes (needs 450). Smallest plan that covers it: 500 minutes. Price a month: $1,725
  • Smith.ai: Billed by: Calls (needs 150). Smallest plan that covers it: Pro, 300 calls. Price a month: $2,100
  • Abby Connect: Billed by: Abby Minutes (needs 450, or 225 if every call is AI). Smallest plan that covers it: Growth, 500 Abby Minutes. Price a month: $1,380
  • My AI Front Desk: Billed by: Minutes (needs 450). Smallest plan that covers it: None. Its one public plan has 200 minutes, and extra minutes cost 25 cents each, paid with credits. Price a month: $99, plus extra minutes
  • Goodcall: Billed by: Unique customers. Smallest plan that covers it: Starter (100) if 100 or fewer different numbers call. If more, Growth (500). Price a month: $79 or $129
  • Tallbell: Billed by: Calls (needs 150). Smallest plan that covers it: Answer, 150 calls. Book, 300 calls, if you want Tally to book. Price a month: $149 or $299

These are plan prices only. Before you pick, ask what happens when you go over your plan, and check each company's own pricing page, since prices change. On Tallbell, each extra call is 50 cents. Say the company has a huge month with 320 calls on Book. That's 20 extra calls: $299 + (20 × 50 cents) = $309.

What one call costs

Some answering services charge by the minute, and Tally charges by the call, so turn minutes into calls to compare them. My AI Front Desk costs $99 a month for 200 minutes. If your calls run about 3 minutes, that's about 70 calls, or about $1.41 a call. Tally's Answer plan is $149 a month for 150 calls, which is about $1 a call, and calls under 20 seconds don't count. Smith.ai's AI receptionist also charges by the call: $150 a month for 75 calls is $2 a call.

The chart below goes the other way and turns each plan into a price per minute. For plans sold by the call, it uses 2 minutes 51 seconds, the typical length of a Tally call so far. It assumes you use the whole plan and leaves out fees for going over.

Bar chart of what one minute of answering costs: Abby AI $1.64 and $1.65, Smith.ai AI receptionist $0.70 and $0.58, My AI Front Desk $0.50, Yonder $0.45, Tally Answer and Book $0.35, Tally Grow $0.29.

Here's what Tally does and doesn't do. For more, see how Tally answers a call.

Tally does

  • Say it is an AI at the start of every call
  • Answer every call, day and night
  • Answer questions using your website
  • Take messages and email you after every call
  • If it's urgent, flag it and email your team
  • If a caller asks for a person, take a callback request and email it to your team

Tally does not

  • Diagnose or guess what is wrong
  • Quote a firm price, unless you give it a price list
  • Promise timing
At night Tally the bell answers a phone while envelopes fly to an inbox tray.

Tally is an AI assistant. It says so at the start of every call. See Tallbell pricing for the current plans, or read what to do with after-hours calls.
